Spider veins are tiny, thin veins that vary in colour, just under the surface of your skin.
Men and women of all ages develop spider veins.
Varicose and spider veins are damaged veins. We develop them when tiny, one-way valves inside the veins weaken. Malfunctioning valves in feeder veins are the underlying cause. In healthy veins, these valves push blood in one direction — back to our heart. When these valves weaken, some blood flows backward and accumulates in the vein. Extra blood in the vein puts pressure on the walls of the vein. Some of this backed-up blood can lead to non-functional veins that appear underneath the surface of the skin as spider veins. With continual pressure, the vein walls weaken and bulge. In time, we see a varicose or spider vein.
Some people have a higher risk of developing these veins. If blood relatives have them, you have a higher risk. Many people get them because they sit or stand for long periods most days of the week. These veins also become more common with age and during pregnancy. Spider veins can also be caused by sunlight, hormonal changes, or an injury.
Here at Svelte Body Clinic we use the Motus-AY Alexandrite Laser machine.
The machine delivers light energy to the skin where the visible blood vessels occur. The Nd YAG laser pierces the skin and penetrates the superficial blood vessel. The heat generated from the laser coagulates the blood inside the vessel causing it to collapse and seal.
The damaged vein gradually dissolves and is removed through the body’s natural immune system, leaving the skin smooth and clear.
Onychomycosis, also called tinea unguium, is a fungal infection that affects either the fingernails or toenails.
A fungal nail infection occurs from the overgrowth of fungi in, under, or on the nail. Fungi thrive in warm, moist environments, so this type of environment can cause them to naturally overpopulate
Laser devices emit pulses of energy that produce heat. When used to treat onychomycosis, the laser is directed so the heat will penetrate through the toenail to the nail bed where the fungus is present. In response to the heat, the infected tissue is gasified and decomposed, destroying the fungus and the surrounding skin and nail. The heat from the lasers also has a sterilizing effect, which helps prevent new fungal growth.
A Course of treatments is recommended and follow up treatments may be required
